Another fine example of stupid decision made by people sitting high up in the ivory tower

Stupid decision
Sunday Times, 24 Aug 2008.

So one table tennis player was without a coach during his match. I don't think it was done on purpose. It was explained that the said player's coach had to cover another player whose coach had fallen ill. It could be an administrative error, I don't know. But how could that take away the fact that the coaches and officials in the table tennis team helped Singapore win her precious Olympics medal since 1960?

Ms Lee Bee Wah only took over as STTA president last month. Does she even know what kind of hard work the whole team, including the coaches and managers, have gone through to achieve such success? It didn't happen overnight.

So there was a slip-up. Couldn't it be handled in a better way? What kind of message are you giving to the athletes? That they can't make a mistake? How could we then breed Olympics class athletes if we continue to instill this kind of kia si behaviour?

I don't know what she was blabbering about getting a new CEO and Technical Director. You are managing a sports team for goodness' sake. A good and sensible sports manager will tell you to never change a winning team. Just ask Alex Ferguson.

The end of Super Aguri

by jinn Email

Come this weekend and onwards, there will only be 10 teams competing in F1, as Super Aguri has officially withdrawn from the competition due to financial difficulties. The crisis was caused by a breach of contract by their main sponsor, SS United. Poor Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson - they will be out of job in the middle of a season.

The phone is reinvented

I couldn't have said it better than Popagandhi. It's all about user's experience. It doesn't matter how much functionalities you put into a product. Once the experience sucks, the product sucks. It's amazing how many companies are doing that. Sometimes it's the users who ask for it. But users being users, they want everything. That being said, it's the product creator who is responsible for the user's experience, because the users are paying for it.

After watching the presentation, I want the iPhone so badly now. Sadly, we won't see it in our shore until 2008.

Michael Schumacher retires after this season

by jinn Email

I have just finished watching the Italian Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher won his 90th grand prix and announced during the post-race press conference that he would retire at the end of this season.

I'm not a fan of his. I don't agree with what he and the Ferrari team sometimes did to ensure his victory. But I have to admit he is a fantastic and quick race driver.

Kimi Raikkonen will replace him in Ferrari with Felipe Massa as their 2nd driver in 2007. Fernando Alonso had already announced that he would join Mclaren in 2007 *sniff*. Renault had earlier announced that Heikki Kovalainen will replace Alonso, and retained the service of Giancarlo Fisichella to complete the 2007 drivers line-up.

2006 season is coming to an end soon with 3 races to go. As it is right now, the 2007 season looks very interesting already.
